WHO WE ARE

CHI-PAP is short for

"CommunityHealth Initiative for

Patient-centered Apnea Protocols"

Our amazing team is made up of volunteer health care providers and clinic staff dedicated to making comprehensive sleep evaluation, treatment, and education accessible to all who need it.

CHI-PAP is housed within, and generously supported by, CommunityHealth, the largest volunteer-run clinic in the country. Click HERE to learn more about CommunityHealth and ways to get involved!

WHY WE CARE

Think back to a time when you didn't get a good night's sleep. Was the next day harder? Did you feel like you couldn't function to the best of your abilities? Or did sleepiness the next day keep you from accomplishing what you needed to get done?

Now imagine sleepless nights like that being the norm.

How might long-term, poor-quality sleep impact your life?

For many people, particularly those with low socioeconomic resources, poor sleep quality is a reality.

  • Low-resource people are at higher-than-average risk of having a sleep disorder (sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, shift-work sleep disorder, etc) and low-quality sleep.
  • Despite facing higher risk, low-resource people often have no way of getting sleep-related concerns evaluated and treated.

We believe that sleep is a human right and that access to comprehensive sleep care is essential to overall health.

WHAT WE AIM TO DO

We believe it's unfair for so many people to be left without resources for improving their sleep. So, in partnership with CommunityHealth, the largest 100% volunteer-staffed clinic in the country, we're working to address the problem head-on.

Together, we've developed an innovative, four-phase care process model aimed at evaluating and treating low-resourced patients' sleep concerns in a timely, patient-centered, and comprehensive manner.

Our Partners

CHI-PAP is the recipient of a generous 1-year grant through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation which has provided crucial seed funding to get our free sleep clinic at CommunityHealth off the ground.

We are also grateful to our community partners at Northwestern Medicine and Cook County Health
